There are two ways to support Read Lead and make a positive impact in a child’s life: Read Aloud and Freedom Schools.

Volunteer with Read Aloud

The Read Aloud program invites you to pass on your love of reading to our students. Guests are invited into the classroom each morning to read their favorite age-appropriate book. The program gives students the opportunity to meet supportive community members and hear nearly 80 books over the summer program. The program takes place every weekday from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. from late June to early August.

Work with Freedom Schools

For six weeks each summer, Read Lead provides the CDF Freedom Schools program to hundreds of scholars ages 3 to 13 throughout Los Angeles County and Seattle, Washington. With a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio, this summer and after-school reading enrichment program helps students gain skills to got to college and to be successful in life. Read Lead offers paid positions and paid internships to college students and recent college graduates to deliver this program to the scholars and their parents. Each year, applications are accepted from December through February. Please click here to learn more about the Freedom Schools program.
