Read Lead is a an official site sponsor of the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program. This summer and after-school reading enrichment program provides opportunities for under-served children ages 3 through 13 to receive a free, innovative education program that promotes a love of reading, builds confidence and self esteem, encourages parental involvement, and diminishes summer learning loss. Read Lead CDF Freedom Schools run from late June through early August each summer at five sites throughout Compton, Lynwood and South Los Angeles and two sites in Seattle, Washington. Learn More >
College-age young people and recent college graduates play a key role in the CDF Freedom Schools program as site coordinators and servant leader interns. This is an empowering opportunity to be a powerful role model for children in your community. In order to foster environments that support children and encourages them to excel, we provide a week-long national training and leadership institute to all interns and coordinators.
Read Aloud is part of our summer Read Lead CDF Freedom Schools program where guests from the community are invited into the classroom to read their favorite books to our scholars. The program instills a love of reading and exposes students to new people and new stories. And it allows you to see what the Read Lead CDF Freedom Schools program is all about.
